Confused Party

October 30th we hosted an alternative Halloween party for college students! The confused party was a combination of 8 parties rolled into one! Not only was it confusing, it was downright hilarious! There were lots of students from UNF, JU and FCCJ who came and had a blast!

The party was a perfect place to get to know other people in a safe and fun environment!

Events like this one are great for fellowship and really help students build relationally!

Trinity Rescue Mission

James 2: 14-17 14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

We are going to Trinity Rescue Mission this Saturday from 11-1pm. Resolution is going to be cooking food and playing music for women, children and men. Afterward we are going to eat lunch and then have a sports day at UNF. Sports days consists of tennis, volleyball, soccer, basketball, football, softball, and ultimate frisbee. Even if you are a sports hater you can come and cheer my teams on in every sport. Invite your friends! This is something you and they do not want to miss. See ya'll There!

Thoughts about James 2
A lot of people will read this passage of scripture and think that they have to do something in order to please God and go to heaven. I believe they are right. If a person does not change his actions after he has met God his faith is dead. We are new creations in Christ Jesus. One may ask, "Well what about the worksman mentality?" The problem does not lie in how a person is trying to please God. It lies in the motive. One should ask himself or herself, "Do I do good works because I feel guilty? Or because it makes me feel like God loves me more when I do them? Or because God will bless me more if I do them? Or it makes me feel more socially responsible? Or it helps my business with it's public image?" God is all about relationship. James 2:26 states that faith without works is like the body without the spirit. It is like a corpse. God does not want us to have a dead Faith; He has called us to have living Faith. In other words, he wants a living relationship. Therefore, through relational interaction between one and God there will come the desire to please Him. It is because I read my Bible this morning and heard his voice that I want to tell others about Him. It is because I worshiped last night and His love poored inside of me that I want to feed the poor on Saturday morning. Because I met the person of Jesus and have know how wonderful He is, I want to meet with Him every day. A person should not strive to good works to feel good about himself. Instead, he or she should seek to please a God that they have met-a God that they are amazed at and are passionately in love with. So go out and feed the homeless and witness to your friends and read your Bible. And do it for your relationship with God, not to become a better religious person.

The Aches and Pains of Broomball

Broomball was a the most fun and the most dangerous it has ever been before. There were some pretty crazy people too. Dan Hutchinson, from JU, played bare foot on the ice! Brianna, the Minnesotan, scored a record 8 goals leading her team, The Fighting Lawn Chairs, to a stompin' win for the title belt. The Hurricane Ditkas, led by Crazy Ben and Big Texas, had a disappointing night as they lost in overtime in a relay race. Justen said, "That's (relays) not broomball man! We got robbed!" Ben made no comment. The Fighting Lawn Chairs spilled their blood to gain the victory-literally. My brother, Ryan, had a bad fall straight on his head, and I had to rush him straight to the emergency room. He is fine...Just a few stitches. But that is not the end of the story. My wife fell on her head too. She woke up the following morning feeling rather dizzy and nauseas. So I took her to the doctor, and we found out they she had a concussion. She is fine now. I did not sleep much earlier this week. Strangely, I have been dreaming about people slamming their heads against the ice. I'm sleeping now. I considered selling all the broomsticks. We'll just wear helmets and pads next time. Well...until next season long live The Fighting Lawn Chairs! -they don't fold easily.

Friends in the Great Nation of Texas

"Dude here are some pictures. The first one is me standing next to the 12th man Statue right outside our football stadium. I love that statue! The other ones are with my friends at a tailgate before a football game. The last one is with me and this guy named matt who went to Georgetown and is not at the Bush School. He is in my bible study and is a great guy. We were at the Astros game in that picture. Go Stros!! haha."

I talked to Dorrell last week. He is doing amazing! Dorrell is leading a Life Group at Rosa's Cafe- the World's Best Mexican Food every Thursday night. There are already 11 guys in the Life group. Dorrell, if you read this, you never sieze to amaze me! What a testimony! We love you Big D!

Don't forget about broomball! We are going to Moes on Southside at 6:30 before the games in Honor of Dorrell- always my President. See ya'll there.

Broomball September 22

If you have never played broomball then you do not know the joys in life that you have missed. I met with Chris Perrin today at Chick-fil-a, and he told me that he has never played broomball! If anyone knows Chris they know that he is going to be amazing at broomball. Kevin Singleton nicknamed him "Spiderman" for his "Spiderman" skills. Who wants to play Spiderman on the ice? I didn't think sooo! From experience, bring gloves and socks... Rachel got really cold last year. Invite as many people as you want, and don't forget to start doing push-ups, sit-ups and sprints every night before you go to sleep!

I am one of the most competitive people God has ever made. I love competition baby! Basketball, badminton, baseball, soccer, football, running, ping pong, pool, tennis, golf, paintball, airsoft, swimming, running, biking, triathlons, band, debate, eating, and broomball!!! Last year I was injured and did not get to show my skills; so I watched as people gave their hearts, lungs, and teeth for the win. There were heroes made last year. People like Ethan the Soccer Player, Justen the Who is He Womack, Wayne Nassis the light footed, and Caly the tank Thurman. I have never seen so much weird, competitive fun in all my life. I look forward to seeing you at the games!!!

Friends and Fun

(Picture from the Cookout in the Summer). This picture reminded me of all the amazing people at Resolution and all the friends God has blessed Rach and me with. My dad always use to tell my brother and me that one of the greatest beauties of the local church was the relationships. I have got to experience the beauty for myself. I was reading in I John the other day and I came across the scripture where John says, "No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us." God showed me that if I love other people and they in turn love others more that God will live inside of us. I also believe that each person reflects a different part of God's glory. For instance, one guy may reflect God's might while a girl may reflect God's faithfulness. Not that we shouldn't try to reflect all of who God is, but we all reflect different parts of the beauty of the Lord at different times. Therefore, when we love people, and they inturn love God and other people the world sees a fuller and clearer picture of our Jesus. Your all awesome!!! Thanks for being my friends.

Tonight at JU

We are having our 2nd Resolution at 7:30 in the Davis Student Commons Bldg. in the Thomas Movie Theater! Come for worship and fun with other students from JU as we strive to follow Christ!

Last Week

Students from Resolution helped move incoming freshmen from UNF, JU, and EWC all last week. It was a lot of work, especially at JU because of the people who lived on the 3rd and 4th floors of Brest and Williams Hall. It was worth all the work because of all the people we got to meet. A lot of the people that we helped move-in came to our Cookout. The Cookout was awesome! Will(from UF) and I had a really hard time winning any volleyball games until we got Alex (from EWC) Colin and Marco (from JU) and Justen (UNF) on our team. The following day, on Sunday, we had our 1st Resolution service at the Chapel! The worship was amazing, God poured out His love, and a lot of people heard and answered the Call of Jesus for their lives. God is going to do something extraordinary this Semester!

This Summer

This summer we went to the Harverst Institute Leadership Training in Fayetteville, NC. Harvest Institute was a packed week of training and fun. We did everything from learning how to share the love of Christ on our campuses to seeing how far we could launch and be launched on the Blob. We had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people from UNC, UNC Charlotte, and East Carolina. I feel like many of the students at Resolution have been prepared this summer to answer the call of Jesus's work.
